Laboratory Analyst - Co-op Placement8-Month Term

ALS Metallurgy, Kamloops
Reports to:
Manager, Analytical Lab
About the Position:
This position is responsible for conducting routine production and non-routine analyses of metallurgical samples.
Specific Responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory preparatory work including weighing and solution preparation as well as chemical/instrumental analysis, strictly following methodologies employing various analytical techniques. Techniques include ICP, AA, gravimetric, titrimetric, combustion analysis, fusions, sintering and other chemistry techniques and/or analyses as appropriate;
- Perform assigned analysis according to established QA/QC requirements;
- Use Microsoft Excel to create reports;
- Organize workload according to turnaround commitments;
- Assist others, as required, to meet workload and turnaround commitments in periods of fluctuating work loading;
- Perform daytoday routine care and maintenance;
- Maintain a clean work environment;
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
- Other duties as assigned.
- Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
- Ability to stand for a full shift;
- Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities.
- Enrolled in a recognized postsecondary Chemistry program or a related field. Completion of secondyear chemistry is required;
- Laboratory experience is preferred.
- Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
- Ability to stand for a full shift;
- Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities.
