The Maintenance Planner (Maintenance and Millwright focused) will report to the Manager, Maintenance & Reliability.

This position is responsible for improving work force productivity and quality by anticipating and eliminating any potential delays through planning, scheduling and the coordination of maintenance resources, parts, materials and equipment.

This position is located at the Cochrane Extraction Plant.


Key Activities and Responsibilities

  • Determine parts, tools and equipment necessary to complete assigned planning work scopes within the plant, between a variety of maintenance crafts
  • Coordinate work management, planning and scheduling in a consistent manner across the maintenance department
  • Provide Maintenance Supervisors with job plans containing the necessary details to allow the work to be properly scheduled
  • Regular inspection of plant work locations to develop detailed plans
  • Organize purchase requisitions and item reservations for planned work
  • Identify gaps within the plant inventory and create requisitions for additions as needed
  • Maintain and continuously improve job plans and task lists
  • Provide assistance with turnaround planning
  • Maintain essential records and files, including current inventory of all district facilities and equipment
  • Prepare monthly asset reliability and compliance assessment reports
  • Review work order feedback to assess lessons learned for future work
  • Utilize Maximo to support the maintenance function for the purposes of records management and reporting.
  • Communicate with contractor resources directly on specific assigned work orders
  • Engage with reliability personnel on improvements, particularly when they are related to a proactive maintenance plan
  • Ensure equipment is maintained according to manufacturer's recommendation

Education, Skills and Experience:


  • Trade Certified Journeyperson with a preference for Industrial Mechanic/Millwright, Machinist, Electrical, Instrumentation, Power Engineering, Pipefitter, Steamfitter, Gasfitter, Plumber, or Welder.
  • Two to Five or more years of experience in a facility maintenance planning role
  • Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience is considered an asset (e.g. Maximo, SAP, etc.)
  • Strong mechanical, instrumentation and electrical aptitudes is considered an asset
  • Strong commitment to Health and Safety, Environmental and Regulatory compliance
  • A structured, logical approach with the ability to work well with intricacies
