Key responsibilities:


  • Assists coordinator with organizing, development, implementation and facilitation of orientation and transition events each semester.
  • Liaises with external and internal partners to assist in development and execution of orientation and transition programs each semester (e.g., financial literacy).
  • Monitors student staff performance in conjunction with the Supervisor.
  • Provides training and coaching to student staff in student led programming development, execution, and skill development.
  • Provides oversight to student staff with the daytoday tasks and operations of the Orientation & Transition programming.
  • Facilitates ongoing soft skills workshops for new and returning students.
  • Cofacilitates orientation programming preceding each new semester to support onboarding of new students.
  • Assists with ongoing environmental scan of orientation and transition programs to identify gaps in program offerings.
  • Collects data and statistics from various stakeholders for analysis of program offerings for review and further development.
  • Performs administrative and student support for the Orientation and Student Life team where necessary, using Banner and other GBC resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements:


  • Twoyear diploma from a recognized postsecondary institution or equivalent.
  • Minimum two years related customer service experience; practical office experience in a busy, customer serviceoriented environment; Student Life and experience with event planning and previous experience overseeing student staff is an asset.
  • Experience culminating statistical reports.
  • Proficiency with Banner and Microsoft Office Suite with attention to Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Proficiency working and facilitating with online collaborative tools such as MS Teams, Blackboard Collaborate, Zoom, etc.

Skills and Attributes:


  • Exceptional oral and written English communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, time management and organizational skills; attention to detail.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Tact and diplomacy are required when dealing with upset students and to exhibit good judgment.
  • Ability to assess students for proper referral, understanding of accommodating students with specific needs.
  • Ability to lift up to 44 lbs (i.e., boxes for orientation materials, information booklets).
  • Ability to work in an environment where a diversity of people and situations are encountered.
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College's priorities on diversity and equity.

Interview process may consist of a practical skills component.

  • The College requires proof of degrees, credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal postsecondary institutions and/or their international equivalents. Credentials may require validation at the time of interviews or offer.
  • First consideration will be provided to regular part time (RPT) support staff in accordance with the part time Support Staff Collective Agreement.
