Description

The Securities Operations team is responsible for supporting the investment groups in transacting in multiple products and operating across various global markets and jurisdictions.

The team operates and manages investment middle office functions critical to the life cycle events of various investment products resident in the portfolio.


The Analyst plays a key role in operating and managing middle office workflows as it relates to global market requirements concerning public trade settlements, income entitlement, valuation practices and corporate changes associated with issuers, compliance & policy monitoring, and for on-boarding and managing various counterparties associated with investment transactions.

The products operated in this role include equities, fixed income, repos, short selling, with additional exposure to cash, collateral, commercial paper, short term securities and term deposits.


RESPONSIBILITIES
The Analyst will undertake a combination of the below activities as required:

Responsible for the book of record for public market transactions to ensure trade settlement, cash entitlements and forecasting, corporate actions, reconciliations, valuation, asset exposure reporting, performance measurement, and the sub ledger are complete and accurate.

Perform daily verifications between book of record and trading system for positions and transactions. Analyze, explain and resolve all reconciliation discrepancies on a timely basis.

Accountable for accurate and timely confirmation and settlement of public market transactions by identifying and resolving trade details with the traders and brokers.

Manage applicable trade activity to ensure adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements
Complete portfolio and market opening requests including external party on-boarding requirements. Maintain all the ongoing market maintenance requirements for the products invested in.

Analyze voluntary and mandatory corporate action events as it relates to legal ownership entitlements and the corresponding downstream impacts to settlements, valuations and investment reporting.

Identify, recommend and assist in implementing processes/controls/productivity improvements including automation of current processes. Responsible for developing documentation to support changes proposed. Participate in special projects as required.
Enhance and update existing desk documentation of policy and procedures as it relates to areas of responsibility. Assist in developing new documentation as required.

Maintain strong understanding of investment products and customer needs in order to respond quickly and accurately to questions and problems that arise.

Foster effective working relationships inclusive of the other teams within CMF, the investment division, OMERS investment entities, counterparties, prime brokers, custodian and auditors as appropriate.

Provide inputs and information associated for audits and ensure completeness and accuracy.


QUALIFICATIONS
University degree in finance or other applicable discipline. Working towards a professional designation including CFA and CPA. Relevant industry courses will be an asset.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in investment operations with comprehensive operational knowledge of public market instruments. Exposure to private markets and cash and collateral administration will be an asset.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential to deal with all levels within the organization and external contacts. Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities to meet deadlines. Needs to be flexible.
Detail oriented and demonstrate aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis and problem solving.
Exposure to investment accounting, reporting and audit control practices.
Proficient in Excel and Word. Investment accounting systems experience is required. Exposure to Calypso, Charles River Development (CRD) and Bloomberg would be an asset.
Self-starter able to work independently with mínimal supervision. Keen to learn and continuously improve processes and reports.
