Finance Services is currently looking to staff a Financial Advisor position.


The person holding this position plays a key corporate internal control role by providing proactive financial advisory services to clients, contributing to the achievement of clients' objectives, and the effective stewardship of the House of Commons' financial resources.


As part of this team, this person provides advice and guidance on implementing controls in several areas of finance within the House of Commons.

They conduct analysis of financial operations, identify potential improvements, and provide recommendations to senior management on changes to financial practices, policies, and internal controls.

In addition, they contribute to the preparation of documentation used for making financial recommendations to the Board of Internal Economy (BOIE) and the Clerk's Management Group (CMG).

Qualifications Education**:


  • A degree from a recognized university with a specialization in accounting, finance, business administration, public administration, or commerce, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and recent and extensive relevant experience in financial management in the public sector.

Experience:


  • Experience in providing strategic advice and assistance to line and senior managers on a variety of financial management issues, including the preparation of related briefing material and presentations;
  • Experience using financial management systems and software to develop complex queries and reports;
  • Experience assessing or working with internal controls.

Assets:


  • Recognized accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA or CA), inprogress or completed;
  • Experience conducting financial analyses for corporate initiatives and summarizing results;
  • Experience in identification and validation of internal controls over financial reporting and financial management;
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio.
