Position Summary:
The Career Development Centre exists as the student affairs unit within the Teaching & Learning portfolio that engages students and alumni in their career development as an integral part of the Laurier experience.
This encompasses the development and delivery of comprehensive programs, services and resources that support experiential learning, career decision making, employment preparation, facilitation of the connection with the employer community, and pursuit of further education opportunities.
Specific programs and services include individual consultation and workshops on career planning, resumé writing, job search strategies, interview skills and further education; a Career Resource Centre; comprehensive employment services for full-time, summer and part-time opportunities for students and alumni; volunteerism; career-integrated learning in conjunction with campus partners; online resources; and co-ordination of numerous events such as career panels, employer recruiting sessions, Career Fair, Job Fair and Further Education Fairs.
Reporting to the Associate Director:
Career Development & External Relations, the Career Consultant is accountable for coordinating the provision of career development programs and services for Laurier undergraduate and graduate students (including part time or distance learning), alumni and staff.
Specific to this role is the assessment of client needs; specialized and diverse expertise in career management strategies; awareness of the stages of career development based on individual client needs; career education research and staying current on career development theories and approaches; development and delivery of career planning and employment preparation programs through individual appointments (in-person, phone, and vitual) and workshops to address the unique needs of Laurier Brantford students; the development of print, webinar, social media and resources; and the establishment and maintenance of relationships with internal and external stakeholders and staff.

_Career Centre Front-line Student Staff Supervision_:
The career consultant supervises the front-line staff of 2 to 3 Laurier Work Study Program (LWSP) students from September to April and is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day front-line operation of the Centre.
This includes employee management, scheduling, communications, project planning as well as recruiting, team building, training and mentoring.The consultant is also accountable for developing in-depth training materials and ensuring student staff outcomes are in keeping with the goals, vision and mission of the department.
Given the synergy between the front-line supervision and the functions in the Brantford Career Centre, the consultant assists with the co-ordination of consulting unit activities and deliverables which include setting the annual workshop schedule; updating workshops, MyLS modules and resources; content creation for marketing materials and newsletters; monitoring Career Centre certificate completion; supporting panel events (topics, speakers, and moderators) and works collaboratively with other Student Affairs staff and the Laurier Brantford community, as well as the Career Centre staff at the Waterloo campus to ensure consistency of service delivery to studentsMore jobs from Wilfrid Laurier University
