Our Next Intermediate Consultant (Geochemist)


The Intermediate Consultant (Geochemist) will support Okane Consultants' leading mine closure consulting services through an integrated life of mine (LOM) approach.

The Intermediate Consultant will provide technical working knowledge in Geochemistry, Engineering, or Sciences and will be an important contributor to Okane's Geochemistry team.

This position will be based in our Saskatoon or Calgary office.


Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Complete background reviews for conceptual geochemical model development.
  • Prepare proficient technical documentation and reports for geochemistry related projects.
  • Develop water quality models and reactive transport models to assess water quality risks for clients.
  • Interpret geochemical data and assess the potential geochemical risks in the context of the mining industry.
  • Prepare or review detailed work scopes for proposals relating to geochemical or hydrological assessments.
  • Interact competently with internal and external stakeholders of varying levels of expertise.
  • Foster and maintain client relationships.
  • Assist in the development of laboratory testing programs including kinetic columns.
  • Update and maintain geochemical databases.
  • Ability to develop and implement geochemical and physical sampling and analytical programs.
  • Supervise or perform field studies for the collection mine waste samples for geochemical characterization.
  • Provide mentorship for junior members of the team.

Job Requirements

  • An undergraduate bachelor's degree in one of the following technical disciplines: geochemistry, earth sciences, environmental science, engineering, geology or soil science.
  • Knowledge and experience in using geochemical modelling software (e.g., PHREEQC, Geochemist's Workbench, MIN3P, etc.).
  • Experience with reactive transport modelling is an asset.
  • Experience and knowledge of the development of water balance/water quality models for various mine site domains (e.g., mine rock stockpiles, tailings storage facilities, and pit lakes).
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of environmental regulations, codes and standards including relevant professional procedures and practices.
  • Works to develop a general knowledge and sound understanding of Okane projects.
  • Demonstrates an increasing level of responsibility for project planning and implementation.
  • Develops several strong professional relationships with clients.
  • Ability to oversee the work of one or more junior persons assigned to work on a common project.
  • Identifies leads outside of the immediate project scope and communicates to the project coordinator.
  • Experience in mining or consulting is considering an asset.
  • A curious and creative mindset with a strong internal desire to innovate and improve systems and processes.
  • Highly effective project management, prioritization, multitasking, and time management skills.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills.
  • Comfortable with presenting at applicable technical conferences would be an asset.
