The Position:

The responsibility of the HSE Field Supervisor is to be present on job sites, ensuring all health and safety controls and procedures are in place and are followed as per Bothar's policies.


The HSE Field Supervisor will ensure the Supervisors and the Foremen provide completed tailgate meeting minutes, and all hazard identification and assessments and other associated documentation.

The HSE supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the company's HSE program is created, enacted, monitored, and revised, according to applicable legislation, industry standards, and client requirements.

Together with the project operations team, this position supports the safe execution of the company's projects in the field. The HSE field supervisor reports to the Manager, QHSE.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the Client and Company HSE standards are followed on site by all employees, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Track and maintain all safety equipment including PPE on site.
  • Conduct sitespecific orientations and safety training for all crews on site.
  • Support daily tailgate meetings and operations meetings on site, and provide input on safety topics discussed.
  • Participate in the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Upload all site and/or shop information as it applies either on dropbox or site docs.
  • Assist in conducting incident investigations on site.
  • Advise of any practice or procedure needing review and updating based on field level observations or voiced concerns from field staff.
  • Lead and exemplify the company safety culture.
  • Complete daily formal and informal inspections as required.
  • Complete monthly site inspections.
  • Ongoing safety focused mentorship to company employees.
  • Awareness of safety related costs and resource management.
  • Experience and awareness with environmental requirements.

Qualifications

  • OHS certification in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, or NCSO Certification
  • 5+ years in the field of Health and Safety, as well at least 2 years' experience in leadership / management positions
  • Knowledge and experience in a similar role within pipeline construction or trenchless technologies is beneficial; previous multisite experience is ideal

Key Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • Working knowledge in Health, Safety and Environment Management Systems
  • Experience with Safety Inspections, Field Level Hazard Assessments, and Incident Investigation
  • Understanding of unions and regulatory bodies and their interrelation to construction / pipeline companies
  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence those at a senior level with regards to policy creation and implementation
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, with attention to detail and a methodical approach
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clients, coworkers, management, and regulators
  • Computer skills, with basic skill levels in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Maintains a professional approach in dealing with issues and employees, with an appreciation for confidentiality and privacy

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • While performing the duties of this job, requirements may include use of hands to handle/feel objects, tools, or controls. Occasionally requirement to climb stairs and/or ladders, balance, stoop or kneel and/or walk on uneven ground. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to hear equipment alarms, voices, radio transmissions, and other noises consistent with construction sites.
