    Vision Rehabilitation Assistant

    Reports To :
    Manager, Healthcare Operations


    Term:
    Full-time, Permanent

    This role entails fulfilling a wide range of duties and responsibilities to enhance the provision of Vision Loss Rehabilitation Services.

    The position calls for a highly skilled and organized healthcare professional who prioritizes safety, security, and patient well-being.

    Key responsibilities include collaborating with our ACVREP certified Rehabilitation Specialists in Independent Living, Orientation and Mobility, and Low Vision to implement established rehabilitation activities and programs.

    Under the guidance of the Rehabilitation Specialists, you will receive referrals and aid in the execution of rehabilitation plans/programs.

    • As part of a multidisciplinary team and in coordination with the specialists, contribute to the planning, execution, adjustment, and assessment of treatment plans.
    • Support the specialist in managing and inventorying adaptive devices as needed and demonstrate consumer products and low vision aids.
    • Assist in monitoring and evaluating treatment and care plans, and communicate observations and progress to the specialist.
    • Provide guidance to the client and other parties involved to optimize the client's rehabilitation journey.
    • Maintain all case data and documentation in line with VLRC Systems and Procedures.
    • Work closely with the rehabilitation team to deliver services, manage travel schedules, and facilitate program enhancements.
    Foster close collaborations with all members of the rehabilitation team.

    • Raise awareness of vision-related health matters through consultations, public education, and in-service training.
    Problem-Solving/Timeframe of Impact

    • Offer timely and innovative solutions and propose process enhancements.
    • Adhere to VLRC privacy and security policies.
    • Demonstrate maturity and sensitivity, along with emotional and social stability while interacting with clients.
    • Proficient in Microsoft software applications, caring for computer hardware effectively, and willing to learn various pertinent applications.
    • Preferably possess post-secondary education and/or prior experience in a Rehabilitation Assistant program, Occupational or Physical Therapy Assistant program, Social Work, or related field.
    • Prior experience or volunteering with individuals who are visually impaired, partially sighted, or with combined hearing and sight impairments is advantageous.
