ÉCOLE LUXTON SCHOOL

École Luxton School is a Nursery to Grade 6 school with an enrolment of approximately 273 students, which includes English N-6 and French Immersion K-6.

It has a rich heritage of recognizing and meeting the needs of a diverse community through innovative programming that fosters the academic, social-emotional, and physical development of all individuals.

The teachers work collaboratively in Professional Learning Communities to strengthen their approaches to teaching and learning.

The priority areas include literacy, numeracy and problem-solving, and exploring themes in the Calls to Action - Truth and Reconciliation Report through writing initiatives.

The school has reprioritized the commitment and implementation of Positive Behaviour Intervention Supports (PBIS) within the building and their Code of Conduct, while supporting classrooms through Roots of Empathy, Kids in the Know, and peer discussions to be Better Together.

Initiatives such as the Luxton Food Locker (food hamper program) and cold weather clothing drives provide an opportunity for the community of students and families to both offer what they can, as well as receive support when needed.

In addition to regular classroom programming, the school hosts two low enrolment programs, a Therapeutic Academic Program, and a Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder (FASD) program.

Consideration will be given to applicants who have demonstrated the following characteristics and qualifications:

Successful teaching and administrative experience, especially at the elementary level;
Fluently bilingual (French and English);
Highly committed to the promotion of French Language acquisition;
A solid understanding and appreciation of French dual track curriculum, philosophy, and unique learning environment.

A leader who is at the forefront of educational issues, knowledgeable about curricula, ability to articulate a clear educational vision and holds high expectations for student success;
High standards for academic excellence, including leading literacy and numeracy priorities based on student learning trends;
Encourages celebration of learning while supporting the arts, physical education, and STEM programing;
Supports a school wide approach to discipline and responds to behavioral issues in a fair, consistent and timely manner with appropriate followup with staff, students, and parents;
Displays strong leadership, organizational and management skills and follows the WSD decision making policies and protocols;
Has experience in facilities management, record keeping and financial management;
Implements an organizational structure that reflects the school's mission statement, goals, and plan and the WSD Strategic Plan.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM

Has strong processes for implementing and monitoring curriculum and student assessment;
Promotes instructional practice that is consistent with WSD Principles of Learning, child development, effective pedagogy, and the needs of each student;
Has experience with inclusive programming with a clear understanding of, and commitment to, inclusion of students with additional needs; understands Response To Intervention;
Identifies and develops programs in consultation with staff to meet diverse learning needs of students;
Willingness to continue and strengthen the teacher collaboration and planning support models including Professional Learning Communities;
Uses data driven decision making to monitor and support student growth and teacher learning;
Values and supports strong cocurricular and extracurricular programs.
Encourages staff to be innovative and risktaking, supports ongoing professional growth and provides opportunities for developing leadership skills;
Experience and understanding of the WSD hiring practices and supervision of teaching and support staff;
