The Ministry of Finance, Industrial Economics Branch, requires a policy professional to provide economic analysis and policy advice on a wide range of microeconomic issues affecting Ontario's regional economies and urban/rural communities.

What can I expect to do in this role?: As an Economist, you will:
- monitor and evaluate the economic performance of Ontario's innovation performance and regional economies
- work with policy and program stakeholders to analyze proposals and develop options to support economic growth
- identify, and conduct research on emerging issues
- provide sophisticated quantitative and qualitative analysis
- develop strategic and viable policy options
How do I qualify?:
Economic Knowledge:
- you have knowledge of economic theories and policy development
- you understand the economic issues which affect the competitiveness of Ontario's innovation performance, regional economies and industries
- you can review and analyze data and assess economic trends and developments
- you are able to prepare economic reports and recommendations
- you are familiar with the government decision-making process
Analytical and Project Management Skills:
- you can analyze data and statistics
- you have knowledge of statistical modelling software and tools to research and prepare own analyses
- you can prepare statistical reports and analysis using computer-based databases and graphics-based programs
- you have good researching abilities
- you can support the work of team members
Communication and Consultation Skills:
- you have strong oral/written communication skills
- you are able to work with sensitive and confidential information
- you are comfortable presenting ideas to colleagues and senior management
- you are timely and accurate in your reporting
