Course description:

Intended for students with none or mínimal background in Mandarin or any Chinese dialects, this course provides a comprehensive introduction to phonetics and written form of Modern Standard Chinese (Mandarin) and covers the topics of functional Chinese at beginner level.

Mondays 11am-1pm, Tuesdays 11am-1pm, Wednesdays 11am-1pm, and Thursdays 11am-1pm

Sessional dates of appointment:
May 1, 2023 to June 30, 2023


Salary:

Sessional Lecturer I - $9,182.42 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $9,641.55 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer II - $9,826.96 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $10,025.84 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer III - $10,060.93 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $10,262.15 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

  • Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail._

Minimum qualifications:

Applicants must have completed a Ph.
D. in Chinese language pedagogy, literature, linguistics, or a related field.

Demonstrated knowledge in the area of second language acquisition and experience teaching university-level Chinese language courses are required.

(Near-)native fluency in Mandarin Chinese is required.


Preferred qualifications:

Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course, or a similar course at the university level, is preferred.


Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.
