    Position Summary

    Financial Support for Moving Expenses is available for this position

We currently have an exciting opportunity for you to bring your excellent work ethic to our Occupational Therapy & Recreation department.

    In accordance with established vision and values of Northern Health, the Occupational Therapist performs assessments and interventions related to patients' occupational performance according to established Occupational Therapy practices and national provincial college standards.

    The occupational therapist works as a team member under the general supervision of the Lead Occupational Therapist of the OT department.

    This position rotates between acute physical/medical inpatient wards and outpatient services.

    The Occupational Therapist works independently and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to promote functional independence and enable the client to achieve and maintain optimal health outcomes.


    Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Days, 08:00 to 16:00 (Rotating)

    Fort St. John Hospital and Health Centre is a 46-bed hospital with 115 residential care beds in the adjoining Peace Villa Care Home. They have two state of the art operating rooms, ambulatory clinics including cancer care and hemodialysis, emergency and ICU, a birthing centre with single maternity rooms for labour, delivery, and post-partum.

    Fort St. John is located above the Peace River Valley, and has a diverse population of 21, and serves an area of approximately 69,000.     Qualfications


    • Graduate of a . approved program in Occupational Therapy
    • Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC). Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists.

    Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, the public, medical staff and the members of the interdisciplinary team using, oral written and computer communication means.

    Demonstrated ability to effectively resolve conflict.

    Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve and make decisions effectively. Applies the problem-solving process demonstrating critical thinking and decision-making skills using a systems approach.


    Management:
    Demonstrated ability to organize work, set objectives and establish priorities.

    Manages time and resources, implements activities to promote cooperation among the interdisciplinary team, supervises responsibilities of others, and collaborates across disciplines.



    Leadership:
    Promotes staff morale, engagement, and risk-taking.

    Demonstrates creative planning for change and innovations, implementation of NH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self and others.



    Teamwork:
    Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and a commitment to excellence in the provision of client care.


    Equipment:
    Demonstrated computer skills including the use of Windows based programs. Demonstrated data analysis skills including appropriate data analysis and reporting tools. Demonstrated ability in the use of e-mail and word processing. Ability to operate other related equipment as required in the specific practice area.
