What the day will look like:

  • Production and revision of actuarial analyses supporting employee benefit plans, including setting and discussing assumptions with clients or client teams
  • Participate in and lead various actuarial and analytics projects
  • Provide technical expertise, sophisticated analysis, insights and recommendations to client teams and analysts in respect to the work being completed
  • Support the broking team on various projects, such as:
  • Analysis and negotiation of annual renewals
  • Analysis and cost projections following carrier marketings
  • Experience monitoring, including analysis of claim costs, trends, and client relevant critical metrics
  • Prepare and/or review of client ready material
  • Attend client meetings in support of the client teams as required or to present actuarial work results
  • Support adhoc financial requests, working with carriers and other business units to support client facing colleagues
  • Coordinate projects with analysts, consultants, other business units and carriers
  • Increase efficiency by identifying ways to improve standardized processes and contribute to client results
  • Participate in team projects and activities which drive innovation, improved client value and business results
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues, clients, client teams and carriers
  • Act as a role model, ensuring adherence to internal tools, quality, technical, professional, and ethical standards
  • Maintain an uptodate knowledge of the group benefits industry, systems, products, trends, and emerging technology, to support a thorough understanding of how this relates to increasing value to clients
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior team members

How this opportunity is different:


As a Consultant in our Actuarial & Analytics team, you will be supporting client teams in the servicing of clients with respect to management of the financial risk of their benefit programs.

Working with a team of analysts and senior team leaders you will be involved with a variety of client deliverables including but not limited to actuarial valuations, benefits costings, reserve calculations, simulation modelling, flex plan pricing and modelling, mergers and acquisitions due diligence and other actuarial and analytics projects.


Skills and experience that will lead to success:

  • Demonstrated relevant actuarial experience in group benefits consulting or underwriting environment;
  • A valid group insurance license multijurisdictional is an asset;
  • Bilingual capabilities, able to write and speak in English and French, will be a strong asset;
  • Demonstrated problemsolving and analytical skills in developing solutions for sophisticated client/business issues;
  • Proven organization skills and the ability to effectively coordinate the delivery of projects and advisory services;
  • Proven ability to lead projects and client team members;
  • Strong technical expertise and the proven track record to remain current with respect to industry trends, provincial and federal legislative policies and changes;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both verbally and written;
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a key member of a team and independently with minimum supervision;
  • Meticulous attention to detail, refined organizational skills and the ability to multitask;
  • Proven ability to prioritize competing requirements and deadlines under pressure;
  • Must have strong computer skills and be proficient with the Microsoft Office Package.
  • University or College graduate in Actuarial science, Mathematics, or related discipline.
  • Actively writing Society of Actuaries (SOA) or Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) exams.
