About this role
The Teacher Assistant is responsible for providing assistance to the teacher and the students in the development of strategies to achieve academic, behavioural, and social goals.
Responsibilities
- Assists the teacher in the implementation of curriculum, classroom materials and schedules to meet the needs of students
- Reinforces concepts introduced by the teacher and supports instructional programs designed by the teacher
- Maintains regular communications with the teacher and other team members and other relevant staff
- Supports the delivery of assessments such as Words Their Way, DIBELS, Blast Phonics, and PM Benchmarking
- Help students individually or in small groups with activities
- Help students individually or in small groups with activities
- Supervises student(s) both on and off the school campus as required
- May carry out emergency procedures
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Successful completion of an Education Assistant or postsecondary graduation program or equivalent is preferred or Early Childhood Certification or Responsible Adult Training an asset
- Experience working with neurodiverse students such as Autism and ADD
- Experience working with students who are hearing and/or sight impaired and/or have the designation of deaf and/or blind
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively while following the direction and guidance of the classroom/resource teacher
- Physically capable of performing the duties of the position
- Remains current with changing technology, practices
- Collaborative and flexible teamplayer
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, timemanagement and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to engage with staff in a collegial and supportive manner
- Able to provide care and mature guidance to children
- Food Safe Certification
- 19 years of age or over
- Knowledge of safe work practices
- First Aid Certificate and Concussion training completed
