Your role


Technological Infrastructure Support Toronto, is currently looking for a strong and progressive Manager able to have positive working relationships with fellow CBC leadership and to lead a group of Broadcast Technologists whose primary objective is to meet in-house and independent production requirements at the Toronto Broadcast Centre and on remote locations as needed.


Activities will consist of:


  • Day to day direction of assigned departmental staff and resources to ensure that equipment and facilities are properly maintained and available for use by production as required.
  • Promoting a community of wellbeing to ensure a healthy workplace.
  • Ensuring that sound maintenance management principles are followed including preventative maintenance and appropriate record keeping (e.g. service tickets in Vimbiz).
  • Ensuring that appropriate inventories of technical parts and supplies are available to facilitate production operations.
  • Day to day supervision, assignment and effective utilization of staff including developing hiring criteria, participating in selection boards, administering performance dialogue conversations, delivering regular performance feedback, administering discipline and ensuring that staff perform work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Determining training and development requirements and arranges on the job training.
  • Ensuring staff adherence to superior standards of client service.
  • Managing assigned budget to achieve departmental objectives. Manage and authorize annual leave. Review and approve overtime.
  • Providing and coordinating necessary support staff to assist Engineering in the evaluation and installation of equipment and facilities. Collaborating with Engineering to develop testing procedures for technical equipment.
  • Ensuring compliance to CBC standards for all technical installations and modifications of technical equipment and facilities. Provide necessary technical feedback to ensure longterm serviceability of all installations. Consult with Engineering on related projects and recommend equipment for projects.
  • Analyzing equipment failures, supportability to determine risk and make further recommendations for audience impact mitigations.
  • Graduation from Community College or University in Electronics Engineering or Systems Engineering (an asset), or other relevant area of study or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Broad professional understanding of media production
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Well developed problem solving and conflict resolution skills
