The Manager Environmental Audits and Training is responsible for developing and managing the environmental auditing and training programs to ensure compliance with relevant environmental legal requirements and industry standards.

The position is responsible for providing environmental expertise for regulatory compliance issues and programs at Air Canada system wide.


Responsibilities:


Environmental Audits:

  • Responsible for the development and management of the corporate environmental compliance audit program to meet relevant regulatory and other compliance requirements system wide.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining audit checklists and audit scheduling based on risk.
  • Plans and coordinates environmental compliance audits at various company locations, in international and national sites, at airports, maintenance facilities, and offices in coordination with the Corporate Quality and Audit team.
  • Provides environmental auditing expertise support to the Corporate Quality and Audit team as required.
  • Responsible for supporting the design, development, and implementation of corrective action plans for the audited facilities to ensure due diligence. Ensures items requiring capital expenditure are determined and budgeted for by the responsible Branch.
  • Ensures audits are conducted in accordance with applicable laws and regulations domestically and internationally, best management practices and internal policies.
  • Coordinates external environmental verification and assessment as required.
  • Conducts internal assessment of programs in preparation of external verification.
  • Tracks and follows up on corrective actions to ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
  • Responsible for ensuring that audit findings and corrective action plans are documented and tracked in internal systems.
  • Monitors environmental performance metrics and identify trends. Provides regular reports to management and insightful, valueadded recommendations to improve compliance performance and mitigate risk.

Environmental Training Development:

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive environmental training program for employees across all departments.
  • Keeps training materials uptodate to reflect changes in environmental regulations and industry best practices.
  • Facilitates training sessions, both inperson and online, as needed.
  • Monitors and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, making improvements as necessary.
  • Works with crossfunctional departments, including but not limited to Airport and Facility Operations, Maintenance, and Human Resources to maintain accurate and organized Training Records.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stays uptodate with changes in environmental regulations and industry standards.
  • Interprets and communicate regulatory requirements to internal teams and ensure compliance.
  • Facilitates continuous improvement of EMS system through implementation and auditing.

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Assists the Director, Environmental Compliance in the presentation of quarterly environmental reports to the Corporate Safety and Environmental Board and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Ensures program documentation is maintained up to date within requirements of the EMS.
  • Prepares and submits environmental reports to regulatory agencies, as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • 5 years of experience in environmental compliance, training, or auditing preferred.
  • Professional accreditation or designation as Compliance Environmental Auditor or EMS Lead auditor (e.g., CEA, EP, AVEE) desirable.
  • Knowledge of Canadian environmental regulations at the federal and/or provincial levels.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Programs. (Access, Excel, Word) and EMS and Training System.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must have excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage projects, demonstrate initiative and able to work independently.
  • Must be able to travel to AC bases across Canada and occasionally to international locations.

Working Conditions:


The job requires some level of physical effort in the performance of audits in various environments (hangar, ramp, office) and requires standing and walking for long periods of time.


The job can be stressful at time as internal stakeholders often contest audit findings and put pressure on auditors to change the results of the audits.
