Purpose:


Accountable to the Director ICT Infrastructure, the Manager of Network and Telecommunication Services is an innovative technology and business leader who is responsible for the University's network and telecommunication, which is at the heart of all campus services.

The manager leads the planning, design, development, implementation and support of data network and telecommunication services fulfill the Department of University Information Technology (UIT) and the University's technical strategic mission to transform teaching and research.

The manager creates and builds a dynamic and continuously evolving network and telecommunication service model that keeps pace with both University needs and pivotal industry advancements.

The manager makes decisions based on a strong focus to leverage modern, secure, highly available wired and wireless technologies and architectures to deliver network and telecommunication services, and enable world-class teaching and learning, campus expansion and operations, and research endeavors.

The manager provides counsel to the Director, ICT Infrastructure on the strategic direction of network and telecommunication services for the University in defining standards and architecture.


Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications, Business Administration or related discipline with an IT focus is preferred. Masters or certifications in technology stacks (e.g. CCNP, CCIE) is an asset. e.g. CCNP, CCIE


Experience:


  • 10+ years of experience including designing and building large enterprise systems and handson technical network experience, at least 5 years of managerial and leadership responsibilities of a large team of staff within a complex organization structure, and management oversight of service providers.
  • Expertise in Network 802.11, Switching, Routing, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VPN, and QoS.
  • Experience in higher education or service provider industries with sufficient understanding of the diverse customer needs is a strong asset.

Skills:

Knowledge

  • Expertise in Network Switching, Routing, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VPN, and QoS.
  • Multi Campus environments.
  • Expert knowledge of data/voice/video/cabling technologies required to support 50,000+ end users.
Skills

  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical situations and solutions.
  • Strong program & project management background with proven implementation of infrastructure transformational capabilities.
  • Ability to set and manage both customer and management expectations.
  • Strong team building, staff development, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to monitor and manage vendor/contractor relationships to ensure responsiveness and quality.
  • Extremely organized, very detailoriented, careful, and thoughtful, with excellent analytical and problemsolving skills.

Compensation:


York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.

Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
