Atlantic Road Construction & Paving is a large heavy civil construction company specializing in heavy civil excavation and flatworks, pipeline placement, concrete placement, and asphalt paving.

Our team has had tremendous growth in the last year, and we are excited to keep expanding.

We are currently looking to hire a
Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator to join our growing team to play an important role for a large project in Halifax.

Reporting to the Occupational Health & Safety Manager, this position is responsible for overseeing & reporting on construction activities and ensuring work is completed safely in association with Senior Project Management and the General Superintendent in a manner consistent with company values, policies, and procedures.


Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary education in OH&S or equivalent experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • Able to follow verbal instructions, effectively manage many tasks and meet appropriate deadlines.
  • Poses a positive attitude & be able to solve problems effectively.
  • Reliable, punctual, organized & detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Drivers License and reliable transportation.

Duties and Requirements:


  • Facilitate/encourage a positive safety culture for employees and subcontractors.
  • Comfortable working in an onsite construction office.
  • Interpreting, communicating, and reinforcing project safety standards to workforce.
  • Conduct site inspections and verify safe working conditions.
  • Maintain a presence on site and meet client requirements for safety.
  • Identify and implement safety policies, programs, and priorities.
  • Compile, distribute and file key HSE documentation/records including: HSE Reports, Investigations, Statistics (Weekly & Monthly), and Weekly HSE/Toolbox Talk Communications.
  • Provide necessary support to managers, foremen and coordinators to achieve their objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial and customer safety standards.
  • Knowledge of environmental requirements and the ability to implement systems which meet compliance.
