Faculty of Environmental Design
The School of Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position
in
landscape architecture.
The
School of Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture (
École d'urbanisme et d'architecture de paysage) is a
centre of leading-edge teaching and research in the fields of landscape architecture, landscape studies, urban planning
and regional planning, project management, built heritage, and urban design. Its areas of expertise include landscape
design, planning, and managing landscapes on every scale (local, metropolitan, and regional) and in multiple settings
(urban, peri-urban, rural, and natural). It offers the only landscape architecture training in French in North America.
The School offers professional undergraduate and graduate programs in landscape architecture and urban planning
as well as joint graduate degrees with the School of Architecture in urban design, built heritage conservation, and
project management. The School also offers a graduate-level research degree called City, Territory, Landscape. The
Master of Landscape Architecture program is accredited by the Landscape Architecture Accreditation Council of
Canada. The bachelor's and master's programs in urban planning provide access to the Ordre des urbanistes du
Québec and the Association pour la promotion de l'enseignement et de la recherche en aménagement et urbanisme
(APERAU). The School also shares responsibility for the faculty-wide interdisciplinary doctorate in environmental
design.
The School has 18 full-time faculty members whose teaching, professional, and scientific activities are recognized
locally and internationally.
It houses multiple research units funded by substantial grants, contracts, and donations:
the
Research Chair in Landscape and Environment, the Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Urbanization in the Global
South, the ARIACTION research group (Adaptation - Resilience - Innovation - Action), the Laboratoire d'innovation
paysagère, the Observatoire Ivanhoé-Cambridge du développement urbain et immobilier, the Observatoire de la
mobilité durable, the LAB Ville Prospective, and the Laboratoire sur les infrastructures vertes et bleues (LIVB). It also
contributes actively to the UdeM UNESCO Chair in Urban Landscape (CUPUM). The School has a strong track record
in research on designing sustainable, resilient, smart, and inclusive cities and regions and the promotion of ecological
transition.
The School of Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture is part of the
Faculty of Environmental Design (Faculté
de l'aménagement), which offers undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate programs in its six disciplines:
architecture, landscape architecture, industrial design, interior design, game design, and urban planning. The
diversity, quality, and interdisciplinary nature of the training and research conducted at the Faculty make it an
extraordinary place for studying and designing living environments.
As a professor, you will promote the School's excellence through your teaching and research activities. You will
also promote your discipline and actively participate in the operations of a renowned institution.
Your responsibilities will include the following
:
Teaching (courses, seminars, or workshops) and supervising students at all three levels in the programs
offered by the School of Landscape Architecture (minor, bachelor, master's) and by the Faculty
(master's, Ph.
D.).
Developing coursework and a research program in landscape architecture or related fields.
Contributing to the development and management of the School's programs.
Contributing to the life and promotion of the School, the Faculty, and the University.
Requirements to succeed in this role:
A doctorate (Ph.
D.) on a topic related to landscape architecture, environmental design, environmental
sciences or a related discipline. Applicants who have submitted their dissertation will also be considered.
A strong publication record. Manuscripts currently under review by peers or publishers may be included.
