Reporting to the Chief of Staff
we are actively recruiting Physician Assistants (PA) for our Surgical program.


Our beautiful, family orientated community located in Southwestern Ontario is just 30 minutes east of London and 20 minutes north of Lake Erie.

We are a skilled group of well-trained, experienced and supportive staff dedicated to providing exceptional care to our patients. Our rural ED visits number approximately 29,000 per year. We have excellent medicine, surgical and anaesthesia back-up available 24/7. TDMH has state-of-the-art equipment including 24-hour laboratory services, respiratory services, x-ray and CT scan. We also have an integrated health record, Picture Archive Communication System (PACS) and computerized physician order entry.

In addition, we offer a mentorship program for our new Physician Assistants in order to assist them in developing confidence and providing support in the transition into practice._**TDMH is a progressive fully accredited 45-bed full-service community hospital that provides both inpatient and outpatient care to a population of approximately 45,000 in Tillsonburg and surrounding area.

TDMH is a full service active treatment hospital with 30 acute care beds, 5 Intensive Coronary Care Unit beds, and 10 Complex Continuing Care beds.

Emergency Room Service with specialty back up in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Anaesthesia and Radiology, and access to tertiary care just 30 minutes away in London available 24/7.

Our Surgical Program remains strong with two full-time General Surgeons who provide mínimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and endoscopy services in addition to a generalist Orthopaedic surgeon.

Four full-time Internal Medicine consultants on staff assist with weekend on-call coverage in addition to a full hospitalist program.


The Ontario Professional Assistant (PA) scope of practice is defined as "under the supervision of a registered physician, the practice of medicine in accordance with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario's policy on delegation." Within this scope of practice, the PA possesses a defined body of knowledge, clinical and procedural skills and professional attitudes that are directed to effective patient-centred care within the physician-patient relationship.

The PA will offer a range of essential services, including but not limited to:

  • Integrate all core PA competencies to provide optimal, ethical and patient-centred medical care.
  • Perform and complete the appropriate clinical assessment of a patient and formulate a clinical treatment plan.
  • Use preventative and therapeutic interventions effectively.
  • Demonstrate proficient and appropriate use of diagnostic and procedural skills.
The PA will demonstrate competency in the following clinical and procedural skills:

  • Obtain health history as appropriate, including patient demographics, chief complaint, history of the present illness or injury, past medical, surgical, family and psychosocial history, medications, allergies and systems review.
  • Conduct comprehensive and focused physical assessments and interpret findings.
  • Utilize primary and secondary assessment results to formulate a differential diagnosis and determine if further clinical investigation is required.
  • Order and complete preliminary interpretation of necessary diagnostic tests.
  • Perform diagnostic procedures such as ECG and cardiac testing
  • Formulate a treatment and management plan based on assessment and investigation results, availability of services and special needs of patient.
  • Monitor patient progress and response to treatment.

The PA will implement the following interventions:

  • Operative Assistance: PAs will provide essential assistance during surgical procedures
  • Clinic and

Minor Procedures:
PAs will conduct patient assessments, assist in outpatient clinics, and perform minor procedures under the supervision of surgeons

  • Emergency Room Consults and Care: PAs will be available for timely consultation in the emergency room, assessing and managing surgical cases

Salary Range:
