    Long Term Occasional Position: 0.2 FTE - Itinerant ESL Teacher

    Required Qualifications: ESL Part 1

    Effective: Immediately - June 28, 2024

    All Long Term Occasional positions will end if the incumbent returns to work.

    The primary objective of this position is to deliver the ESL/ELD program and services in the
    assigned elementary schools within the Dufferin area of the UGDSB. The primary role of the Itinerant
    ESL Teacher will be to help support our English language learners in the early stages of their
    English language acquisition. The ESL teacher will also collaborate with classroom teacher(s), to
    assist with program planning, ESL strategies, accommodations, and modifications.

    Qualifications:

    • A member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers

    • ESL Part 1 Additional Qualification is a minimum requirement

    Duties:

    The duties may include the following:

    • Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation
    of ESL/ELD programs and services

    • Conduct newcomer assessments

    • Participate in the ongoing assessment and tracking of English language proficiency, and the
    academic progress of English language learners

    • Update and maintain data regarding ELL students in the designated region

    • Provide English language learning instruction based on students' learning styles, strengths
    and needs

    • Work within a continuum of service delivery models including: withdrawal for early stage 1
    students, and working within a resource model (co-teaching) for mid stage 1 onward

    • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to effectively adapt and support the classroom
    program for their English language learners

    • Assist the school community in addressing issues of second language learning and cultural
    adjustment and cultural literacy development

    • Maintain effective communication with centrally assigned Program staff

    • Continue professional learning by attending professional development and ESL
    inservices/conferences

    • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Principal of Program

    Assets:


    • ESL Specialist

    • Three or more years of teaching experience

    • Experience or additional qualifications in Reading, Mathematics, French as a Second Language,
    and/or Special Education

    • In depth knowledge and understanding of the ESL Policy document, ESL programming and best
    practices, and current educational issues pertaining to English language learners

    • A reputation as an innovative and stimulating educator

    • Demonstrated organizational, team building, problem-solving, planning, mentoring and staff
    development skills

    • Excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills

    • Proven ability to work collaboratively with a team
