Description

Reporting to the Controller, the Financial Analyst oversees the accuracy of nonretail revenue streams collected from merchandise suppliers, franchisees and other retailers, as well as manage weekly sales and margin analysis, identify reasons for impacts on business performance.

The Financial Analyst will work in collaboration with Merchandising, Operations, Finance and IT departments to understand and resolve issues in a timely and efficient manner.

Key responsibilities

Build financial variance analysis comparing actual results with budget and prior year.
Build the product category financial metrics for major product groups.
Monitor major inventory items to track sales flow through and financial impact.
Analyze weekly/monthly sales, profitability, and inventory to identify issues and risks related to achieving the financial plan.
Participate in cross departmental Merchandising/Operations/Finance group meeting as the Finance team planning representative.
Assist in the quarterly financial summary by preparing management exhibits to highlight actual to budget and prior period variance and provide commentary on performance.
Assist in preparation of presentation materials (reports, charts, graphs) for senior management.
Provide ad hoc financial reports including but not limited to vendor invoicing and payments, franchise invoicing and payments, and inventory analysis.
Build financial forecast model to perform "what if" scenarios for product sales and vendor performance based on strategic plans.
Identify and recommend inventory management strategies including markdowns on distressed inventory and product exit strategies to ensure target weeks stock cover are maintained.
Review the open to buy report to assess impact on inventory levels and cash requirements. Compare purchase requests against budgeted plan.
Develop and execute actions plan to course correct businesses that are off plan in conjunction with the Merchant team and with the support from the Replenishment team.
Collaborate to put in place and periodically monitor buying plans are in line with the inventory strategy for these categories.
Periodically review actual costs vs. budget for various cost lines including; Marketing, IT, Other, Legal and accounting.
Assist in design, development, and implementation of new and ad hoc reports as required by the business.
Ongoing process improvements/enhancements to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
Assist with special projects as required.

Key Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years related work experience in retail, accounting or business analysis
University degree or postsecondary education business, commerce, accounting, or finance related.
Professional accounting designation or currently enrolled in a professional designation program (an asset but not required)
Excel: pivot tables, lookup formulas, familiarity with macros, graphing and sorting
Access: pulling data, joining tables, cross tab tables
Strong interpersonal and communication skills able to effectively obtain information, communicate issues, actively engage in influencing others and working as a team
Must possess strong analytical skills with attention to detail and consistency in report presentation.
Results oriented ability to prioritize and consistently deliver on time with high degree of accuracy.
Ability to work in a fastpaced environment.
