Intern, Facilities Operations (CAPEX):


Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War.

The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy.

Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

The Facilities Department is responsible for overall management of Seaspan Shipyard's assets.

This includes the maintenance and upkeep of all physical land, building and structures as well as all equipment related to the physical plant or production activities.

The Facilities Department manages all capital related projects and engineering works associated with facility investments and upgrades.


Note:

Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.



What you'll do

  • In this position, you will work on all aspects of construction projects, from beginning to end, with responsibility for project execution while assisting the Capex Project Manager with their daily tasks to complete objectives in a given time frame and with available resources.
  • Assisting project managers in identifying potential problems and recommending solutions to improve efficiency and reduce costs
  • Evaluating bids from contractors for materials and labor costs for projects
  • Helping to maintain accurate records of the costs associated with each project
  • Working with architects or engineers to develop drawings for new structures or renovations to existing ones
  • Managing the daytoday operations of a project including scheduling subcontractors, reviewing blueprints, and making sure that deadlines are met
  • Providing information to clients regarding project status and progress
  • Coordinating with subcontractors to ensure that they are following proper safety procedures and working within their designated time frame
  • Reviewing estimates for materials needed for construction projects and making sure they are consistent with the budget requirements
  • Communicating regularly with clients to make sure they are satisfied with the progress of the project

What you'll bring

  • Enrollment in a degree or diploma in Business Administration, Construction Management, Project Management or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Work with others as a team player
  • Organized with strong technical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to interface with subcontractors, suppliers and professionals
  • Computer proficiency in the Windows environment
  • Study field within a technical field
  • Self-Starter
