JOB SUMMARY:


The Recreation Program Coordinator will work under the guidance of the Recreation Coordinator to assist in the development and delivery of children's summer camps, and all other summer recreation activities.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to delivering a variety of activities such as physical activity programs and programs geared towards building social interaction and artistic expression.

The Recreation Program Coordinator will act as role models and mentors to program leaders, participants, modeling constructive participation in activities, fostering engagement, and ensuring the safety and well-being of participants.

Examples include structured and unstructured art sessions, sports and games, and guided crafts and skill building sessions.


Work Term:
eight-week term (37.5 hrs per week, some evening and weekend hours may be required)


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assist in planning and executing summer programs and activities.
  • Assist in supervision of summer program staff.
  • Supervise groups of children as young as 5 for full day programming (programming will be outdoors as much as possible). Locations will vary throughout the Village of Port Williams.
  • Maintain knowledge of scheduled daily activities.
  • Work to maintain a safe, healthy, and fun environment for program participants.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

The ideal program leader will have experience in developing and overseeing recreation programs
Experience related to recreational programming is an asset.


PHYSICAL
DEMANDS:


While performing job duties, the employee is required to reach with arms and hands, bend and stoop, remain at a standing post for extended periods of time; may be required to lift up to 30lbs.

Work may be outdoors in mixed weather conditions.


CERTIFICATES:

First Aid and CPR &AED certification
High Five Training an asset
Criminal Record, Vulnerable sectors checks and abuse registry check.


The position is funded, in part, through the Canada Summer Jobs program which is designed to create job opportunities for young Canadians (age 30 and under).

The post will remain open until the positions are filled.

Contract length: 2 months


Salary:
$15.50 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week

  • Port Williams, NS: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Licence/Certification:

  • First Aid Certification (required)
