Position Title:
Specialist, Low Vision (Bilingual)

I. Scope and Summary of Primary Responsibilities

  • To provide evaluation and training to clients with low vision in the north of the province, ensuring programs meet the individualized needs of the clients.
  • To support clients in their sight loss journey to enable them to maximize their health, independence and wellbeing.
  • To provide training in the use of specialized equipment and help clients to determine the need for environmental modifications in the home, workplace, or community setting.

II. Essential Functions


This position covers several aspects of Vision Rehabilitation services including building relationships with clients, developing customised programs, providing low vision therapy services, managing a caseload, delivering awareness training to others as well as working with Vision Loss Rehabilitation specialists and community partners throughout the province.

Regular travel throughout the province and occasionally overnight will be required.

Qualifications:


  • Low Vision Therapy certification or the willingness to train.
  • Minimum bachelor's degree with a preference for Social Work, Teaching, Nursing, Gerontology, OT or other related human services focus.
  • Ability to work in French and English.
  • Computer skills and the ability to report fluently via written communication.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Willing to travel as required.
