Metro Community Housing Association (MCHA) is a non-profit, community-based agency that provides support to persons living with mental illness. MCHA is a service provider of the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services.


Established in 1974, we have grown to 15 residential locations which include small option homes, group homes, complex care homes, a community transition house, a residential care facility, as well as a supported apartment service.

What does the role entail?
We are seeking a receptionist to be responsible for greeting clients and visitors to our office.

You will be in charge of contacting employees regarding visitors, answering the switchboard phone and directing calls or taking messages, and sorting and distributing incoming mail and faxes,.


Responsibilities:


  • Ensure that all clients, staff and visitors feel welcome and comfortable when entering office.
  • Assist with photocopying when required, ensure that all photocopier requirements such as paper, ink cartridges etc are filled and available at all times.
  • Receive and distribute mail and faxes.
  • Order/receive and monitor usage of office supplies for Central office and all other MCHA locations.
  • Ensure that office is tidy, appropriate office equipment/tools are in good working order and call service departments when required.
  • Keep up todate and maintain all office information binders such as labels, forms etc.
  • Greet public in a professional, helpful and pleasant manner.
  • Assist clients when picking up their weekly cheques, allotment money, and scheduled appointments with case managers/residential staff
  • Answering main switchboard, screen incoming calls and take messages/voice mail as required.
  • Provide and maintain the Sign in Sheets for all Central staff.
  • Organize all client courier work between Central Office and all homes, including calling couriers and assuring delivery.
  • Maintain key box and keys for cabinets, office doors and houses.
  • Responsibly secure and accurately distribute cash and valuables such as grocery cards, taxi chits, petty cash, bus passes etc as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:


  • High level of professionalism, fluent English language skills both verbal and written, a helpful and pleasant attitude as well as exemplary attendance.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Proof of vaccination and clear criminal record check.
  • Experience in a similar role or in an office environment would be an asset.

Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 3 months


Salary:
$17.50 per hour


Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Morning shift

COVID-19 considerations:


Proof of full vaccination, in accordance with the "Nova Scotia COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination Protocol in High-Risk Settings" order is required.


Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Halifax, NS: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
