Reporting to the Program Coordinator, and/or designate, the Summer Recreation Coordinator will be responsible for assisting with planning, implementation, scheduling, and delivery of new and existing City of Oshawa Playground programs-including existing summer daytime playground programs and the delivery of an evening preschool based program.

Provide administrative support to the Playground Program area, as required. Assist in the smooth and efficient operation of all programs. Provide on-site supervision to programs and staff. Interact with the public on a regular basis, and promote City programs and services to customers. Respond to customer feedback in a professional and knowledgeable manner. This position will also liaise with youth serving agencies in partnership with the Playgrounds program.

Requirements:


  • Knowledge and skill generally associated with the completion minimum 2 years towards postsecondary education in any of the following fields Recreation and Leisure Studies, Youth Studies, Education or related field of study; or have an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum (2) years of previous related job experience working with children 312 years of age in a camp or playground program setting;
  • Ability to work independently in an outdoor setting
  • Possess current Standard First Aid Certification with CPR 'C'.
  • Provide a current (within six months) Criminal Record Check
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. (International students are not eligible.)
  • Superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, marketing, administrative, business planning and problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent customer service experience communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with staff, external agencies, and the general public.
  • Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines and able to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • The City of Oshawa is situated on lands and waters within the Williams Treaties Territory, home to seven First Nation communities of the Michi Saagiig and Chippewa Anishinaabeg, who have cared for and maintained these lands from time immemorial and continue to do so to present day. _
