The opportunity:

The University of Manitoba is looking for a Graduate Programs Advisor. This position will provide high quality academic advising and classroom experience to our students in professional graduate programs. This role is critical to students' academic success and experience at the School.


The Graduate Program Advisor will also be responsible for all related aspects of the student experience including, but not limited to; liaising with the Career Development Centre in particular as regards co-ops, all scholarships and fellowships, liaison with the student association(s) for professional graduate programs and with the Lead, Experiential Learning, and involvement in planning and execution of various student events as appropriate.


The qualifications and experience we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Masters' education would be considered an asset.
  • Two years minimum of university student advising experience is required; ideally at the graduate level.
  • Experience working with confidential and sensitive information is required.
  • Graduate student administration experience is highly desirable.
  • Graduate student customer service/advising is highly desirable.
  • Public relations and interunit (FGS, RO etc) experience is desirable, liaison work with other units.
  • Experience at effective team working is highly desirable.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal & written) are required.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency is required.
  • Strong customer service skills required.
  • Capable of working independently with little supervision and in tight timelines required.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills and ability to work in team environment required.
  • High level of professionalism in presence and conduct required.
  • Tact, discretion and diplomacy when dealing with difficult issues is essential; ability to retain confidentiality required.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations appropriately required.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
