The Occupational Cancer Research Centre (OCRC) was established to fill gaps in our knowledge of work-related cancers and to translate these findings into preventive programs to control exposures and improve the health of workers.

The OCRC undertakes epidemiological, surveillance, and exposure research on the prevalence and causes of occupational cancer and other occupational diseases.

It is funded primarily by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, with additional funds from Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, Ontario Health and external research grant programs.


Here is what you will be doing:

The Research Assistant will provide research support working with a team of Research Associates, Team Leads and Scientists in the execution of research projects and in the development of knowledge transfer materials.

The Research Assistant will support one or more projects in occupational surveillance, epidemiological and exposure research. The Research Assistant will work closely with the project team(s) to produce key deliverables. The Research Assistant will provide support for various research and administrative tasks as needed in the research life cycle.


This is an ideal opportunity for a master's student or recent graduate in Occupational and Environmental Health, Occupational Hygiene, Public Health or a related program.


  • Conduct literature reviews on occupational health topics with the ability to manage references and concisely and accurately summarize relevant literature
  • Conduct statistical analyses of small or large datasets, interpret results, produce tabular, graphical and written summaries
  • Assist in the production of sciencebased materials on occupational disease risk factors and the measures to reduce their prevalence
  • Assist in the generating images and text for presentations, website, and published materials
  • Respond to various requests for information from stakeholders and funders
  • Carry out researchrelated tasks as requested by Team Leads and Scientists
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Science or a related field is required
  • 12 years' experience in an administrative or support role, with research related experience preferred
  • Understanding of Ontario occupational health and safety system and partners is an asset
  • Experience working with administrative health data is an asset
Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong work ethic both in both independent and team environments
  • Eagerness to develop academic research skills and desire to learn about occupational health and workplace exposures and risk factors
  • Competency in MS Office Suite (including Access), statistical software platforms (SAS, R, or STATA preferred), reference management software (Mendeley, EndNote, RefWorks)
  • Proficiency in written communication and report preparation in English
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and team building skills
  • Excellent problemsolving skills
  • Strong writing ability
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Employment Type:
Temp. Full-Time ( 4months starting in May)

Paygrade and Zone: 2A
