General Accountability:


  • Plans, manages and controls sections daily operations and assists with the supervision and leadership of the section. This involves project management activities, administrative duties, program development, ensuring subordinates are properly trained, along with other responsibilities as necessary. Supervises daytoday activities related to the work in the garages (e.g., inspection, installation, rehabilitation, maintenance, construction, equipment repairs, and other systems in the transit tunnels, stations, buildings, and properties) and oversees the work of external contractors and internal stakeholders engaged in related activities. The role may be responsible for the financial control and reporting for capital projects. Will perform related duties as assigned.

Key Job Functions:


  • Plan, coordinate, and generally supervise work and staff in the garages
  • Create plans and procedures to identify work needed (i.e., to identify all warrantable repairs and the associated work) and implement
  • Ensuring that sufficient buses, nonrevenue vehicles and equipment are available, in a safe and reliable condition, to allow other Departments to meet daily revenue service, related transit revenue operation and nonrevenue support activities
  • Plan, organize, supervise, and direct the activities relating to work or project; and make recommendations regarding adjustments to work as needed
  • Address environmental, safety, and other compliance issues related to operations in the Garages/Shops
  • Review and analyze data, information, procedures, or other methods; make recommendations and/or document as necessary
  • Review systems, processes, and/or documents (e.g., procedures, reports, contracts) to ensure work is conducted up to standard and in the best interests of the TTC
  • Develop and administer standards to ensure efficiency, quality of work, safety, and effective performanceEnsuring employees are properly qualified and trained in work and safety procedures; ensuring regulatory and legislative requirements are adhered to and complied with (e.g. MTO inspections, environmental issues, waste disposal, etc.)
  • Preparing financial budgets to manage business plans and preparing relevant reports and presentations for up to the Commission level
  • Inspect equipment or systems (electrical, technical, structural), test, and fix as necessary
  • May be required to substitute for Senior Management

Education and Experience:


  • Completion of a postsecondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • A Certificate of Qualification as a Truck and Coach Technician (310T) is required
  • Certificate of Qualification as an Automotive Service Technician (310S) or Auto Body & Collision Damage Repairer is an asset
  • OACETT Engineering Technologist certification is an asset
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario (PEO) is an asset
