Description:

The University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) is the second-largest division of the University of Toronto, Canada's preeminent research institution. Since 2005, the CHaNGE Lab has been a training hub for undergraduate, graduate students, and postdoctoral research fellows.

It is also an incubation space for community-based research focused on inequities in health and disparities in the social determinants of health among immigrant and racialized populations in Peel Region.

More recently, the CHaNGE Lab is home to a large interdisciplinary research project examining the lived experience of the Covid-19 pandemic among immigrant and racialized populations in Peel Region.


Under the guidance of the Vice-Dean, Faculty, the Research Associate will take on a leadership role in managing this highly interdisciplinary research environment including maintaining and building relationships with community partners including municipal and regional government offices, civil society organizations, etc.

The Research Associate will also coordinate team members including faculty, students, community partners, and a Community Advisory Board (CAB) while overseeing research design and data collection, leading group-based coding processes, writing peer-review papers and reports, leading knowledge mobilization and dissemination activities, and actively seeking new sources of funding.


Responsibilities include:

  • Work with project PIs and a broader team of coinvestigators, community collaborators, and students to coordinate research design and set future research directions
  • Build local collaborations
  • Coordinate all project activities including setting up meetings, coleading research design, data collection, data analysis, and dissemination/knowledge mobilization activities
  • Manage project website and a widerange of individual projects effectively
Minimum Qualifications


Education:
Ph.
D. in a health geography or a relevant area in the social sciences


Experience:


  • At least three (3) years of demonstrated expertise in postdoctoral research, with expertise in immigration and health, social determinants of health, the impact of the Covid19 pandemic on the health of immigrant and racialized populations in large diverse urban settings
  • Experience as a project/team lead required
  • Experience managing interdisciplinary teams
  • Experience providing project management and ensuring projects adhere to ethical requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in high quality knowledge dissemination

Superior communication and organizational skills; Self-motivated with an ability to multi-task; Ability to work in a collaborative group; Ability to lead a project and co-ordinate research teams.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, showing initiative and good judgment.

Supervisory skills including effective teambuilding and the ability to establish positive working relationships and foster collaboration to achieve common goals; experience in training and monitoring performance; Strong verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to convey research results to various audiences; strong organizational, decision-making and management skills.

Computer proficiency in NVIVO.
