    The Product

    The MAD-XR (Magnetic Anomaly Detection) is the latest generation of sensor system installed onboard surveillance airplanes and helicopters which allows for real time detection of submarines (hyperlink to product demo). The sensor has successfully demonstrated performance during test flights and is entering high volume production rate.

    Job Summary

    As a key member of the Hardware Engineering team, the Avionics Engineer will play the central role in integrating the MAD-XR sensor on new aircraft platforms: planes, jets, helicopters and drones. Integration of a MAD-XR's within an aircraft requires detailed analysis of the vehicle's magnetic footprint in order to determine the best location for the sensor within the vehicle. This is achieved using: 1) specialized instruments, 2) the MAD-XR itself and 3) by understanding the impact of the different aircraft systems present with the MAD-XR installed.

    The candidate will develop an SME level of knowledge of the MAD-XR and will use this knowledge to perform different functions within their role, including customer training. A background in aviation and electronics along with customer facing soft skills is key to this individual's development with a goal to deliver customers an integrated solution including training.

    The Avionics Engineer will collaborate across teams and identify opportunities for system design improvement. The position requires to be available for travel and otherwise requires 80% on site presence in the Montreal plant.

    Your duties and Responsibilities

    • Develop expertise and become Subject Matter Expert to support customers with support on sensor operation, performance & maintenance related matters.
    • Travel to customers' site to perform magnetic survey on their aircraft platform. Prepare and review associated flight test plans and write technical reports consolidating, analyses, recommendation observed limitations.
    • Prepare official operational and maintenance documentation and other product/project deliverable documentation.
    • Address configuration management questions and prepare associated documentation.
    • Build training package and travel to customers' sites to deliver training.
    • Investigate production issues root cause and implement appropriate solutions.
    • Develop/refine specifications for test equipment to ensure effective and efficient functional testing of the product.
    • Work with the HW Engineering team to:
      • Address electronics and firmware based issues with the sensor.
      • Implement mechanical design improvements to test equipment and the sensor.

    You are a good fit if you have the following skills and qualities

    • Bachelor's degree in electrical, electronic, avionics or aerospace engineering
    • Demonstrated experience in design, integration, troubleshooting or maintenance of avionics systems.
    • Knowledge of aircraft systems and flight dynamics.
    • Demonstrated experience working with electrical troubleshooting equipment.
    • Interest in travelling to customer sites.
    • Ability to work autonomously in remote areas with limited support under tight deadlines.
    • Ability to define plan, identify risks and report progress to management team while performing integration at customers' site.
    • Ability and interest in preparing technical documentation.
    • Strong customer soft skills.
    • Capability to explain technical concepts to a wide variety of audiences, both orally and in written form.
    • Ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced work environment and to tolerate ambiguity.
    • Bilingual (French & English) required.
