About the Dalhousie Student Union (DSU): The DSU represents the collective voice of over 18,000 students in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The DSU advocates for student rights, builds community on campus through events, supports over 300 societies, and provides focused services to foster a supportive and positive student experience.


Compensation:
$40,000 (benefits package also included)

Hours: 35 hrs per week (Sept - Apr); 30 hrs per week (May - Aug)

Overview
The Services Coordinator is responsible for the overview and management of DSU Services.

This includes but is not limited to support and management of the DSU Food Bank, The DSU Farmers Market and other potential services of the DSU.


Job Duties
General Duties

  • Operate in accordance with the DSU bylaw and polices.
  • Host weekly meetings with parttime staff to set direction, provide support and receive feedback.
  • Scheduling and supervising part time staff
  • Support in the development and maintenance of servicebased initiatives that are created by the DSU.
  • Work with the Communication Team to ensure the DSU website and social media platforms is updated with the correct hours of operations and information on how to access the services.
  • Support in other tasked as assigned to you by the Director of Operations.
DSU Market

  • Hire and train all Market Staff.
  • Managing relationship with suppliers and local farms.
  • Coordinate and receive orders.
  • Booking space for Market operations
  • Work with Communcations Team to develop a marketing strategy for the promotion of the Market and Food Boxes.
  • Facilitating new ideas for the market as directed by students.
  • Facilitate equipment maintenance.
Food Bank

  • Work with Food Bank Coordinator to coordinate the purchasing, sorting and distribution of food.
  • Work with Feed Nova Scotia to coordinate weekly deliver.
  • Submit annual paperwork to Feed Nova Scotia.
  • Maintenance of data collected through the foodbank.
  • Facilitate Equipment maintenance.
Information Center

  • Work with Information Center Supervisor to oversee scheduling and daily operation of Information Center.
  • Hiring, training and evaluation of part time staff
  • Oversee and support existing services provided at the desk such as Mail Distribution, Lost & Found Leave For, Ticket sales, General Enquiries, Key Sign out etc.
  • Review and identify possible new service initiatives.
  • Maintain and update information sources required for effective operation such as phone lists, maps, Air Table, Function Tracker etc.
Printers

  • Order Printer supplies.
  • Make maintenance calls when necessary.
  • Troubleshoot printer issues.
  • Submit monthly printing records to Konica.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree from a university and at least 12 year of experience as an executive at a society or student union at a postsecondary institution; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills, and a strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive under pressure in a fastpaced environment, including excellent organizational skills and time management skills. Must be able to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and experience working with studentcentered services
  • Demonstrates knowledge of contemporary student issues on campus.
  • Must exhibit diligent work ethic, ability to take initiative, good decisionmaking skills and ability to resolve issues accurately and efficiently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with all stakeholders, including direct customer service and/or membershiprelated management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new online collaboration software, including the Microsoft Suite, Airtable, and/or other software used by the DSU.

Reporting Structure:
Reports directly to the Director of Operations

  • This is position unionized with United Food and Commercial Worker Canada Union, Local 864_
