Wellness & Wellbeing, Sport & Recreation, and Leadership & Learning. Careers & Experience is part of the Leadership & Learning pillar along with Academic Support & Engagement. The Student Experience portfolio operates together to create an environment in which students can thrive and succeed. Student Experience also collaborates closely with the University Students' Council, Society of Graduate Students, and other departments across campus.

Careers & Experience helps students deepen their academic learning and actively plan for personal and professional growth through career education, experiential learning, and industry exploration.

Responsibilities:


The primary purpose of this position is to develop and increase the number of course based (for credit) Community Engaged Learning (CEL) opportunities for Western students.

CEL is an educational approach that integrates community-based projects into academic courses in order to enhance students' learning and help them gain transferable skills, while addressing real-world social issues.

The Community Engaged Learning Coordinator is a member of the Experiential Learning unit within the Careers & Experience department and contributes to the goal of every student graduating with at least one experiential learning activity.


Qualifications:


  • Education:
  • Undergraduate degree with a Master's degree in Education or related field preferred

Experience:

  • 3 years' experience working in Higher Education in an administrative role
  • Recent and direct experience working in community engagement field preferred
  • Experience building effective crosssector partnerships preferred
  • Experience in program management preferred
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with well-developed presentation and public speaking skills
  • Ability to establish meaningful and longlasting partnerships and relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Creative problemsolving skills and sound professional judgment
  • Proven ability to effectively manage a project from beginning to end
  • Ability to research and keep uptodate on emerging trends and best practices in the field
  • Strong commitment to customer service, including needs assessment, evaluation, and continuous improvement
  • Ability to work in a fluid and challenging work environment with changing priorities and quick turnaround times
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a teamoriented environment
  • Strong organization skills, including the ability to multitask and prioritize for high quality outcomes
  • Intermediate computer skills and the ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
  • Compelling and persuasive communication skills to engage individuals and teams inside and outside the University
  • Ability to remain highly motivated, resilient, innovative, and collaborative when faced with challenges
