Outreach & Recruitment - Western Engineering Outreach


Western Engineering Outreach (WEO), now in its 32nd year, is a non-profit, student run organization within the Faculty of Engineering that strives to increase the awareness of engineering, science and technology amongst young people in London and the surrounding communities.


Through elementary school workshops, community programming and summer camp programs, WEO reaches out to the community at large to promote engineering, and thus Western Engineering.

Additionally, WEO offers specialized programming to reach underrepresented groups in engineering including females, Indigenous students, and those coming from at-risk communities.


Responsibilities:


This position supports the spring and summer programs of Western Engineering Outreach to provide community outreach and engagement to youth, community partners and teachers in the London & Middlesex Community.

Western Engineering Outreach provides a pathway for youth to experience Western Engineering firsthand and start their journey to potentially becoming future students at Western University.


  • The Summer Outreach Coordinator will provide specialized support in the areas of administrative services, research services, infrastructure services, or student services. The incumbent will have responsibility for carrying out activities which require higher level specialization of skills. The incumbent will be responsible for providing support to faculty or staff, and for effectively carrying out a variety of tasks in accordance with policies, procedures, and instructions received from their supervisor. The incumbent will take guidance from their supervisor, and work productively and courteously with their work team and other members of the Western community.

Qualifications:


Education:

  • 2 years of postsecondary education, and be a student returning to studies in the fall
- preference for Engineering, Science, or Education students


Experience:


  • Previous directly related experience; experience in camps required

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Oversee all aspects of workshop season and camp season
  • Coordinate logistics for camp registrations and dealing with campus issues as they arise
  • Assisting other Outreach Coordinators in delivery of engaging programming from May through August
  • Written and verbal communication skills to express ideas clearly, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
  • Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
  • Reliable and dependable with the ability to consistently work assigned schedule
  • Ability to follow detailed and/or complex processes and practices with high attention to detail
  • Demonstrates integrity and works in accordance with Western¿s policies and procedures
  • Ability to multitask and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn and use new software programs as required
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
  • Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements as applicable
  • Ability to speak French preferred
