About the Role

At Family Services of Greater Vancouver, we've been helping people in crisis since 1928.

As a non-profit, we help people develop skills and knowledge, empowering our neighbours to create positive change in their lives.

Our team is made up of more than 420 staff, including expert counsellors and support workers who provide compassionate, client-centered care to youth experiencing homelessness, families and children impacted by trauma, victims of domestic violence, and other vulnerable people from an evidence-based, trauma-informed lens.

This role is a term position from September 2023- May 2024.

Trauma Counsellors (Child & Family Counsellors) in the SAIP Program (Sexual Abuse Intervention Program) are responsible for providing trauma-informed counselling to children and youth ages 3 to 18 years who have experienced sexual abuse and/or sexual exploitation.

Counselling services include intake, assessment, treatment, referrals, and consultation and collaboration with other service providers.

The Trauma Counsellor (SAIP) will also be responsible for providing support services to supportive caregivers and family members as required.

Trauma Counsellors support clients in their healing journeys from a feminist, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive lens.

Work Hours: 8-month Term Position

  • Parttime, 32 hours per week (Maternity Leave Coverage)

Salary:
GS 12B Step 1 and if applicable salary range $34.17 per hour


Location:
Vancouver office in the vibrant Broadway and Commercial area. 1638 East Broadway Vancouver

Possibility of some remote work

What you bring:

Education, Training, Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant counselling experience working with children, youth and families who have experienced trauma
  • MSW, MA or M.Ed. (Counselling Psychology) or equivalent degree & registered as RCC or RSW
  • Experience providing parenting support and psychoeducation to parents/caregivers on child development and the impacts of trauma on attachment
  • Training in Expressive Arts Therapy, Trauma Therapy, Body Oriented Psychotherapy, and Attachment oriented psychotherapy practices

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Solid understanding of the best practices in trauma treatment including somatic psychotherapy, neuroscience, attachment, expressive therapy, internal family systems
  • Solid clinical counselling skills with children, youth, caregivers and families impacted by trauma and sexual abuse
  • Skills to adopt a culturally sensitive, antioppressive, resiliency framework in supporting clients

Additional Requirements

  • Successful completion of criminal record check
  • Proof of Covid19 vaccination status will be required
