    Description

    Responsibilities:

    • Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Economic Development & Climate Change and working closely with the Office of the Mayor, this role will oversee the implementation of the Downtown Revitalization Plan - Strengthening the Core. It involves integrating key action items, fostering collaboration among various stakeholders, monitoring progress, and ensuring timely reports.
    • Coordinate action strategies, lead economic development initiatives, seek funding opportunities, manage resources and budgets, track critical data, and act as a primary contact for City departments and stakeholders. Facilitate trust-building activities to revitalize the downtown area sustainably.
    • Collaborate across sectors to meet the needs of the public, businesses, and residents. Partner with stakeholders to promote best practices in housing, homelessness, and health support to maintain a safe, lively, and economically thriving downtown core. Focus on business attraction, retention, and expansion to drive job creation and economic diversity.
    • Support businesses in accessing City services efficiently. Provide assistance to various leadership and working groups.
    • Research and present reports with recommendations to Council Committees and City Council, attending formal Council meetings annually. Engage in public consultation, conduct statistical analyses, and contribute to long-range economic planning.
    • Represent the Mayor's Office and the Commissioner of Economic Development and Innovation in relevant committees and meetings. Offer guidance to public agencies, business area boards, community associations, and internal service units regarding economic development responsibilities. Organize public meetings and engage with development stakeholders.
    • Perform Occupational Health and Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation's program and fulfill other assigned responsibilities.

    Qualifications:

    • Hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent from the Ontario Ministry of Education in a relevant field.
    • Be able to travel to off-site locations promptly. Possess a valid Driver's License if vehicle travel is required.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of the Ontario Municipal Act, provincial policies, and related legislation.
    • Possess strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and graphic software is essential.
    • Establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external contacts.
    • Display excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and deadline-meeting skills.
    • Preference for candidates with experience in Economic Development, Marketing, Downtown Revitalization, BIA's, or Public Relations. Higher degrees or diplomas in related fields are advantageous.
    • Experience in research, data analysis, and reporting is beneficial.
    • Understanding of Occupational Health & Safety Acts and associated hazards.
    • The role involves a sedentary level of work based on the physical demands analysis.
