    Position Information Job Title Librarian Faculty Appointment Types Full-time Probationary Job Summary Join our dynamic team at the College of New Caledonia as a librarian at the Learning Commons & Academic Success Centre. This team-centred role is pivotal in managing the lifecycle of print and electronic resources, ensuring they are accurately represented in our catalogue and discovery tools and on our library shelves. You will play a vital role in enhancing access to our diverse electronic and physical collections and integrating technology solutions to improve library services. This position emphasizes our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and Indigenization in all aspects of our work. Skills & Qualifications Under the supervision of the Department Director, you will:

    • Oversee the maintenance and optimization of the library's technology systems, such as SirsiDynix and Ebsco Discovery or other systems like these and electronic resources, ensuring effective integration and troubleshooting of technical issues with vendors and IT. This includes liaising with IT Services to facilitate the transfer of student user data into the library system.

    • Use knowledge of MARC, RDA, Library of Congress classification and subject headings, Canadian subject headings, and AACR2 to oversee the creation and management of metadata records working with various cataloguing sources, including OCLC, for all resources (electronic and physical), in both monograph and serial form to boost discoverability and accessibility while embracing best practices that support the advancement of Indigenization and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

    • Manage metadata files with external partners, including BCELN, EHLBC, OCLC, EBSCO, and other vendors, to represent and update the College's bibliographic records and holdings.

    • Coordinate departmental metadata creation and physical material processing activities in collaboration with Technical Services staff to foster effectiveness and efficiency.

    • Maintain relevant library collections by participating in collection development decision-making with other librarians and by coordinating inventory controls for library collections at all CNC campuses in collaboration with other librarians and department staff.

    • Develop online resources, using platforms such as LibGuides, in collaboration with other faculty and librarians to encourage and facilitate access to relevant library content, especially electronic, to support teaching and learning.

    • Compile monthly and annual reports on production, services, and activities of the Technical Services unit.

    • Directly support students and faculty at the reference desk or virtually, assisting with research and information literacy.

    • Be adaptive and creative, and enjoy problem-solving in a diverse environment.

    Skills & Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution

    • Evidence of recent coursework or professional development related to advanced metadata and technology standards and industry best practices.

    • At least one and preferably two years of experience in library systems and metadata management.

    • Proficient in metadata standards like MARC, AACR2, RDA, Library of Congress classification and subject headings, Canadian subject headings, and Dublin Core.

    • Knowledge and experience with library management systems, preferably SirsiDynix and Ebsco Discovery, within the context of libraries, preferably in post-secondary academic settings.

    • Strong organizational and communication skills to build collaborative relationships and improve library services.

    • Demonstrated ability to engage with students and faculty, providing research assistance and promoting information literacy.

    • Demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives within library and broader higher education settings.
