The Manager, Digital Communications plays a critical role in the leadership, oversight, and strategic direction of the uOttawa brand internationally, nationally, and locally.

The position will enhance the image and reputation of the University by improving the delivery of information, improving the function, and delivering a better user experience of uOttawa's digital communications channels.

This position contributes as part of a thought leadership team and endeavours to create a centre of excellence for Communications and Marketing.


In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Human resources management: Recruits, mentors, trains, develops, manages and evaluates staff ensuring capable and engaged resources. Supervises the work of the central digital team by facilitating and tracking project status, identifying problems and issues, allocating appropriate resources, and ensuring that projects are completed on schedule and at the highest levels of quality.
  • Budget management: Assumes full responsibility, authority and accountability for the management of operating budgets related to digital projects for which this position is lead, including website development, supplier fees, online marketing and advertising costs, etc. Manages the development of RFP's and quotes for outside suppliers related to these projects including all subsequent contracts.
  • Project management: Plans and manages digital projects and initiatives for all groups under External Relations and central administration. This can include website and mobile site development (i.e. fundraising campaign websites), corporate digital campaigns, online advertising and panUniversity Web tools. Manages large scale corporate website renewal projects. Collaborates with clients to establish priorities, develops plans, defines appropriate project management and control mechanisms, monitors and measures performance and takes corrective actions where required. Creates policies and guidelines for the use of uOttawa subdomains and collaborates with uOttawa IT Solutions management team

What you will bring:

  • A University degree in digital marketing, digital communications, business administration, marketing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of digital media and the use of social media to educate, engage and inspire.
  • Knowledge of how to develop persona, user journey and segmentation to develop tactical and strategy roadmaps.
  • Experience using metrics to measure performance of websites, campaigns and digital channels to deliver strategies and provide recommendations.
  • Knowledge of digital information technologies and how to use these in a strategic and efficient manner to support and reenforce an organization's brand and meet business objectives.
  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience with proven strategic results.
  • Minimum 5 years in managing a large, productionoriented, high traffic web presence, preferably within a large, complex organization.
  • Experience in strategizing and implementing digital marketing campaigns and initiatives.
  • Experience in leading project teams, staff and outside suppliers.
  • Experience in information structure and content strategy.
  • Seasoned individual with excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong judgement, initiative, creativity, flexibility, tact and diplomacy, as well as experience in dealing with conflict situations and sensitive issues that reflect on corporate image.
  • Strong analytical, short and longterm planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
