    To daily assist in the Vernon Salvation Army Business Department operations, which provides administrative and support services to the entire Ministry Unit, and to our stakeholders and donors.

    HOURS:

  • This is a part-time position of 22.5 hours per week. No Sunday work.
  • After 3 months probation completed, enrolment into a group RRSP plan will be offered. At the end of 3 months, all employees are eligible to receive sick time and medical appointment time PTO benefits.
  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drafts and types business correspondence; sorts and prioritizes assignments within general guidelines; researches and responds to difficult enquiries on behalf of the supervisor as assigned.
  • Performs general office duties such as answers telephone calls and directs and answers enquiries; greets and escorts visitors; files documents electronically or manually; photocopies and distributes materials as requested; sends and receives fax/email material as requested; resolves routine inquiries.
  • Assists with maintaining databases (employee/volunteer info, contact lists, etc.); helps maintain input into the Salvation Army databases -
  • Drafts and prepares presentations, brochures, fliers, advertisements, invitations and certificates subject to supervisor approval
  • May schedule meetings, prepares agendas, takes minutes; types and circulates minutes.
  • Opens and distributes in-coming mail and processes out-going mail including materials of a confidential nature
  • May order stationary/other supplies and assists in maintaining adequate office supplies/other supplies as needed (kitchen/lunchroom), may arrange for maintenance of office equipment
  • Prepares and receives paperwork for various business/admin department projects and processes as assigned by Business Manager/Corps Officers: month end and year end tasks, including reports, deposit summaries, journal entries and preparing and submitting TEM reports, and other business-related projects and tasks as needed.
  • May assist receptionist in handling walk-in cash and credit card donations, and issuing temp receipts; assists the Business Manager in preparing official tax receipts and thank you letters
  • Assists with processing bank deposits; delivers deposits to the bank
  • Participates with co -workers in maintenance and cleanliness of building (snow removal, general interior cleaning, general exterior cleanup if needed)
  • Helps Business Manager with maintenance and cleaning of old files storage area, keeping items current and area safe
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completed high school diploma.
  • Valid Driver's License and clean driver's abstract
  • Proof of Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check or willing to obtain.
  • Abuse prevention course through The Salvation Army. – we will provide the training
  • Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must be qualified to work in Canada today to apply for this position.
  • Experience:

  • The successful candidate must have 1-2 years prior experience
  • Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Understand, support, and be able to communicate and model the mission, values, and policies of The Salvation Army in Canada.
  • Excellent customer/donor service ethics including the ability to deal with the public in a friendly manner
  • Capable of successful independent work and working as a team.
  • The ability to adapt to change and interruptions to a normal work routine, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Proficiency with digital communication.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • A willingness to adhere to a dress code of modesty, neatness and cleanliness
  • Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
