Description

Purpose:


Administers the York University Pension Plan and employee benefit plans for all academic, non-academic employee groups, deferred pension plan members and retirees in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Benefit plans include health, dental, vision, group life, voluntary accidental death and dismemberment, travel accident, long term disability and tuition fee waiver.

Acts as the first line of contact through in-person, telephone and electronic interaction providing pension and benefits information to employees, deferred pension plan members, surviving spouse and/or dependents of deceased employees and retirees as well as the retiree population.


Education:

Human resources certificate or equivalent. Courses in pension and benefits would be helpful.


Experience:

Three to five years of human resources' experience in a front-line capacity dealing with pension and benefits issues.


Skills:

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - proficiency in Word and Excel required.

Understanding of internal human resources policies and procedures.

Familiarity with human resources information systems (PeopleSoft)

Familiarity with central tracking system would be helpful

Ability to attend accurately to detailed work


Customer service experience - demonstrated ability to explain complex information and to act in a timely manner to address employee/retiree inquiries/changes.

Ability to remain calm during in person or on the phone irate (swearing, threatening, rude) individuals

Ability to work in a team environment.


Additional Notes:

Office environment - cubicle arrangement.

Noise level can be a factor in the ability to have a conversation with a distraught individual while other work activity carries on

Normal work week 8:30 - 4:30 - Monday to Friday.

Compensation:


York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.

Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
