Position Overview:

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct policy review, research and analysis in the development of policy and recommendations with respect to updates to the City's Official Plan, long range policy planning initiatives, land use studies and secondary plans.
  • Develop and implement land use studies and policy reviews including preparing reports and presenting recommendations to City Council.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies/stakeholders on projects.
  • Support the implementation of the City's Official Plan including monitoring policies and targets.
  • Provide advice and interpretation of official plan policies and guideline documents.
  • Provide creative solutions supportive of policies and guidelines
  • Assist with the development, facilitation, and reporting of internal and external public and stakeholder consultation including public meetings and workshops
  • Act as expert witness at Ontario Land Tribunal and other tribunals, as required.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Registered Professional Planner or demonstrated eligibility for membership in the Ontario Professional Planner's Institute (OPPI).
  • Experience in developing and facilitating effective community/stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong project management, dispute resolution, negotiation and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in both team situations and with mínimal supervision.
  • Ability to provide a solution oriented, customer service approach using good judgement, creativity and strategic thinking.
  • Accomplished skills and experience in statistical analysis, research, evaluation and policy development.
  • Intermediate skills in Windows based computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines in a demanding environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, stakeholders, the media and the general public.
Ability to prepare presentations and present to committees and tribunals.


Hours of work
35 hours per week Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. Evening work would be required to attend meetings. This position is eligible for hybrid and flexible work arrangement options (as per current corporate policy).


Pay/Salary
CUPE Local 973 Grade: 11: $43.88-$53.89 per hour
