Foremen with Cando are responsible for the daily supervision of the employees on site, assisting the supervisor in keeping the project on plan and budget, managing the site purchasing and payroll, and liaising with the customer and/or other contractors.


This position will be based in the Fort Saskatchewan, Sturgeon County, AB area.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Guide the day to day operations of the job site ensuring the necessary people, equipment, and other resources are available to effectively provide our service; work alongside employees operating equipment as well as teaching and mentoring.
  • Work with Field Supervisors and Project Managers on a daily basis identifying potential hurdles, targeting inconsistencies and providing solutions for effective operation; provide continuous status reports
  • Lead all daily job briefings, conduct and document hazard analysis, and act as the champion of all safety initiatives
  • Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and customers
  • Ensure the production of the job site is aligned with the project plans and carry out the plans as directed by the supervisor or department manager
  • Build and maintain positive and healthy relationships and teams within the division
  • Promote and guide others to understand delivery of effective services and achievement of objectives of daily work tasks
  • Educate others, provide employee training, and help with the implementation of policies and practices in the division
  • Manage purchasing and reporting for the specific jobs including productivity reports; complete timesheets and WCB forms
  • Ensure quality of work/workmanship meets or exceeds industry standards
  • Ensure the general maintenance on equipment is maintained and daily log books are accurately completed
  • Assist in day to day workload, while promoting a safe work environment

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Railway Track and Track Protections considered an asset
  • Demonstrate initiative to independently plan, organize, and prioritize workload; meet project plans in a constantly changing environment
  • Demonstrate leadership including establishing focus, providing motivational support, fostering teamwork, and empowering others
  • Possess a working understanding of legislation, regulations, and best practices relevant to area of expertise
  • Ability to establish rapport with people and influence opinions, attitudes, or judgements
  • Skilled in the use of computer equipment and operating systems including word processing, and spreadsheet and database software
  • Ability to work on the road for 10 days at a time throughout Western Canada when required.
  • Able to lift more than 50lbs regularly

Education & Experience

  • General knowledge of track construction and maintenance principles and operational and production capabilities of various equipment which include welding and boom truck experience.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Basic mathematics skills and familiarity with reading blue prints and schematics
