The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for five temporary call-in Customer Service Representatives for the Customer Service Representative Call-In Pool.

Job description


A Customer Service Representative is an ambassador for the Municipality by delivering high quality customer service and one-stop access to services and information connecting the entire community.

Working at municipal centres throughout the Municipality, Customer Service Representatives may receive cross-training to provide both Municipal and Provincial Services.

Essential responsibilities

Demonstrate Chatham-Kent's core values and competencies

Responsible for managing inbound calls, providing information and services to customers coordinating and logging service requests

Collect, balance and process payments and transactions

Process and issue water permits and bus passes


ServiceOntario Provincial Services:
Issuance of Ontario Health Cards, Driver and Vehicle Licensing, Provincial ID

Commissioning documents (delegated authority)

Coordinate electoral duties during municipal elections (designated authority)

Reviewing and assessing eligibility of customers for accessible bus permits; determining best suited pass for individual customers

Maintain databases as required

May be temporarily or occasionally reassigned to work within any Municipal centre location sites

Essential qualifications

College certificate or diploma, with two (2) to four (4) years of related experience

Call centre experience, including working in customer service, preferably in a municipal or other government environment, in person and by phone:
As first contact

Researching information for customers

Dealing with angry/upset customers

Multi-tasking

Sound knowledge of municipal government structure, programs, publications, and a general understanding of municipal government

Experience processing various licenses, registrations, and permits preferred

Numerical accuracy to handle sales transactions, process payments and balance cash

Ability to operate large databases/word-processing software

Proficiency in English (both oral and written) required

Strong telephone skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner

Advanced time management, prioritization, and organization skills


Working knowledge of the following software programs: Clarity, Central Square, FMW, PerfectMind, JD Edwards, SkyHawk, GeoCortex, D365 CRM, Transit fare, SharePoint and Water Exchange, ServiceOntario, social media, etc. or other similar programs
Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (or similar software program)

Other qualifications

Proficiency in French (both oral and written) an asset

Knowledge of complaint and conflict resolution techniques an asset

Work environment/hours of work

This position works indoors

COVID-19 Vaccination

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent no longer requires a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. Although it is not mandatory to be vaccinated, it is highly encouraged.

Driver's licence/vehicle requirements


Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's licence with a reliable motor vehicle is necessary.

constant sitting in a chair (sitting at desk most of the workday; occasionally required to drive to another office for meetings, training, municipal centres)


Reaching:
frequent handling; constant reaching below shoulder, forward (phones, print of sale machines, receipts, correspondence with customers at counter, etc.)


Hands:

constant fine finger dexterity (movement), mousing (point of sale machines, phones, copier, printer, fax, data entry, calculations, writing, filing, stamping, etc.)
