The Stewardship Officer provides senior professional services, including providing direction to the stewardship team, and providing recommendations for decision makers within a natural resource program area.


The primary role of the Stewardship Officer includes:

Resource Monitoring, Silviculture, Timber Supply Review, Strategic and Operational Planning, Land base Investments, Forest Health and Program Staff Management.

Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree in natural resource management or a related field as recognized by Forest Professionals BC.
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester, with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC)

Note:

immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the FPBC within six (6) months of employment.

Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.

  • Minimum three (3) years experience in negotiating and consulting with partners in natural resource management.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience managing multidisciplinary issues involved in natural resource management. (Silviculture, integrated resource management, timber development, or similar)
  • Minimum one (1) year supervisory experience including leading, coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Experience working in collaboration with First Nations in resource management.
  • Experience working with authorizations and planning (such as tenures and stewardship).
Provisos and Willingness Statements

  • This position requires you to have a valid BC driver's licence (minimum class 5), or an equivalent class driver's licence from another province or jurisdiction.
  • Meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC
  • May be required to operate a variety of equipment (including chainsaws, offroad vehicles, etc).
  • Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
