This role will be ideally suited to an HR professional who has experience in
Pension governance and management** in Canada and is looking to expand their experience and responsibility by holistically overseeing and developing the Swiss Re Canada employee benefit programs in all areas contributing to physical health, mental health and financial well-being.


How the HR Operations Specialist Adds Value:

  • Makes sound recommendations on benefit program enhancements, changes and design based on their knowledge and expertise
  • Identifies and anticipates internal and external stakeholder requirements, expectations, and needs in the development of new solutions to meet the evolving needs of employees
  • Ensures end to end HR/payroll processes are working effectively to ensure stakeholder satisfaction and risk management
  • Tackles tough challenges or problems quickly and provides the extra effort to accomplish difficult or critical tasks
  • Has a curious and creative mindset to introduce new ideas based on market best practices balanced with business needs
  • Brings approved recommendations into implementation and to conclusion and takes direct responsibility for utilizing strong change management practices

Main Job Responsibilities:


The HR Operations Specialist, in conjunction with the HR Country Head and HR team members, is responsible for supporting the Canadian business, employees and leaders, and contributing to the effective operation of the Canadian HR function.


Pension Specialist

  • Manage the Canadian retirement plans: DB Plan, DC Plan, SERPs, Savings Plan and associated processes
  • Manage vendor relationships and service delivery of vendors involved in the administration of Plans to ensure service standards are met
  • Active member of the Employee Pension and Savings Plan Committee preparing recommendations and updates to present to Committee
  • Oversee and project manage vendor RFPs to meet our criteria and support change management
  • Oversee, modify, enhance processes to ensure accuracy of data and recordkeeping and good governance
  • Oversight to the pension enrolment processes and work closely with the Payroll Specialist
  • Keep abreast of legislative changes to the Pension Act
  • Point of contact for retirees

Benefit Specialist

  • Manage the Canadian group benefit plans and associated processes
  • Manage vendor relationships and service delivery of our external benefit vendors to ensure the provision of excellent service to our employees and retirees
  • Oversee and support the communication of the annual benefit enrolment process
  • Partner with our benefits broker to escalate issues, obtain advice, and participate in the benefit renewal process and RFPs
  • Partner with Sourcing to ensure vendor contracts are kept up to date and modified as needed
  • Analyze trends to help propose solutions, create new programs and support new or outdated policies
  • Explore options towards an enhanced digital service delivery experience for employees
  • Ensure Benefit Factsheets and Plan documents are kept up to date
  • Provide oversight to the Canadian recognition program and process
  • Provide oversight to the production of the annual Total Reward Statements

Operations Leader

  • Support the introduction of new HR processes and programs into the HR Canada team
  • Represent the customer face of HR on matters that relate to the benefit and retirement plans
  • Support Payroll validation processes as they relate to pension and benefit plans
  • Prime point of contact with the Global HR Service Centre
  • Support process enhancements to ensure appropriate risk and controls are embedded, and required Risk reports are reviewed, created and actioned
  • Support any activities in cooperation with Internal Audit, Finance, Compliance and Risk functions

Key Attributes and Skills:


  • Minimum of 5 years progressive HR experience in a Canada Pension specialist role
  • Postsecondary education in business or other relevant disciplines; CEBS designation or progression towards designation is an asset
  • Experience in creating processes, process reviews to enhance accountability, simplicity and speed and accuracy of delivery
  • Willingness to expand pension knowledge into a total reward approach
  • Evidence of a commitment to selfdevelopment and being up to date on the future of pension and benefits
  • Proven ability to develop creative, futureforward solutions
  • Excellent time and project management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands, while being adaptable and flexible
  • Experience with RFPs an asset
  • Selfmotivated with a flexible and enthusiastic approach to work and a 'can do' attitude.
  • Able to demonstrate a collaborative approach using teamwork
