The Manitoba government is seeking a highly motivated Construction Project Technician to work with the department of Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure.

This position offers reliable and full time employment with a defined pension plan.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess a valid Class 5.0 driver's licence
  • Must have the ability to travel within the province (by air or land).
  • Must be able to work extended hours or irregular hours such as weekends/overtime, involving overnight stays (possibly in a camp environment).
  • Must be physically capable of performing the required duties of the position such as prolonged sitting, medium lifting (carrying up to 25 lbs), walking (on possible uneven surfaces) and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Civil Engineering Technology diploma or completion of the Department's Level 3 training program (with the exception of Design 3) or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in Roadway Construction utilizing guidelines, practices and methods or experience in water infrastructure projects including hydrotechnical, geotechnical, or experience in structural engineering.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and courteously with internal contacts, other branches/divisions, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent planning, analytical, and interpretive skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to maintain accurate records, prepare applicable correspondence and associated technical reports.

Desired:

  • Experience using Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure's Construction Management System (CMS), Internal Project Approval Management (IPAM) system, Contract Services Approval System (CSAS) and Master Plan spreadsheets or an equivalent system.
  • Experience in departments detailed design process and preparation of construction orders and tenders.
  • Experience working with Engineering Service Provider (s) (ESP).

Duties:


Reporting to the Senior Design and Construction Engineer, the Construction Project Technician primarily preforms project construction and associated departmental staff supervision and assists with project design and tender preparation while adhering to Department standards, polices and specifications.
