The Construction Lead Hand (Junior Foreman) plays an important role in the successful execution of installation, maintenance and repair projects involving street lights, traffic signals, pedestrian crossovers, signage, flashing beacons and other traffic electrical devices.

Work is year round, Monday to Friday, 40+ hour weeks with opportunities for overtime. Expect periodic out of town and night shift assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently collaborates with superintendent, construction foreman and project team. Advises of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, etc.
  • Review project drawings and specifications for constructability and quality goals and seek clarifications when necessary.
  • Lead daily tailgate meetings to address scopes of work for the day and Job Safety Analysis to address the planned work.
  • Maintain daily construction records and logs including photographic evidence of site progress, rental equipment, concrete and rebar supply etc.
  • Work with the project coordinators and scheduler to define constraints and priorities for each week.
  • Track subcontractor productivity and quality and provide suggestions for improvement and/or contract notices when appropriate.
  • Submit project progresses to Senior Foreman and Superintendent (Daily, Weekly)
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Assisting in the investigation of any incidents or complaints and preparation of reports
  • Motivate, lead and work with various team players, including the client, consultants, inspectors, and subcontractors, trades people, field employees, suppliers, and all fellow employees.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and training to team members on various aspects in the field.
  • Be jointly responsible with assisting in the yearly Employee Performance Reviews as well as disciplinary reviews and action.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to be adaptable, manage multiple priorities and work in a fastpaced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, quality control and engineering drawings
  • Ability to identify potential risks, determine root cause, develop actionable solutions to meet project milestones and budget requirements.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Ability to workdays/nights/weekends or out of town if necessary
  • Experience in developing and mentoring teams.
  • Demonstrated organization skills.
  • Analysis, problem solving and decisionmaking skills.
  • Ability to frequently lift, push, and slide packages that typically weigh up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

  • Combination of work experience and/or technical training in an industryrelated trade certification/education program with at least 5 years of construction related experience.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 (non GDL) driver's license and submission of a 5year Driver's Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Journeyman Electrician is an asset.
  • Project Management Certificate is an asset.
  • Class 3Q is an asset.
