Collaborating as an interdisciplinary team, we provide services and supports that address the social determinants of health including factors and barriers such as poverty, inadequate housing, food insecurity, substance use, language and culture, as well as stigma and social exclusion.

The Health Centre works with the most complex client population served by primary health care professionals within Waterloo Region.

Our highly skilled and diverse team works from a strength-based approach with individual clients as well as the broader community.

We collaborate with many partner agencies and organizations within Waterloo Region.

Our team consists of Family Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Dietitians, Chiropodists, Pharmacists, Psychiatrists, Health Promoters, Community Health Workers, Administrative Staff and Volunteers.

The Health Centre is currently recruiting for the following position:

SUMMER STUDENT - ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT - MEDICAL (Canada Summer Jobs)

Full-time Contract (July 8, August 30, 2024)

Job Summary


The Administrative Assistant - Medical (Canada Summer Jobs Program) serves as a champion of the Vision and Mission and promotes an environment that is consistent to the Health Centre's Statement of Values and Principles.

The Administrative Assistant - Medical is an essential member of the client-centred health professional team and will provide support and assistance to the Primary Care and Diabetes Education Teams.

This position will assist at both our 44 Francis St S and 310 King St E, Kitchener locations.


Responsibilities

  • Work with members of the Primary Care Team to determine which clients require updates to client socio-demographic information.
  • Connect with clients via telephone and in person to verify existing socio-demographic.
  • Enter and update sociodemographic information into clients' electronic medical records.
  • Maintain medical records filing structure and organization.
  • Photocopy, organize, and compile educational materials for client orientation sessions.
  • Assist in conducting evaluations, surveys and promotional materials.
  • Track and compile data for quality improvement.
  • Call or connect with clients about client satisfaction surveys.
  • Assist and support the team as required.
  • Adhere to all Health Centre policies.
  • Adhere to appropriate infection control practices including those related to Covid -19.
  • Maintain status of fully vaccinated for Covid-19, including boosters as they become available - or exemption documentation if appropriate.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

This position is accountable to the Manager, Primary Care.


Qualifications

  • Strong interest in developing skills and providing administrative support in a health care setting;
  • Strong interest in Community Health;
  • Experience working with diverse members of the public;
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team
  • Ability to take direction and follow instructions;
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office. Prior experience with electronic medical records is an asset.
  • Ability to work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of the community, including early mornings and some evenings;

  • The Health Centre requires that all staff be fully vaccinated for Covid-19 at the time of hire and maintain vaccination ongoing as boosters become available. Official proof of Covid-19 vaccination status is a mandatory requirement unless an exemption document is provided.
  • Adhere to all Health Centre policies.
  • Ability to obtain a Police Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check satisfactory to CHCKW.
